IT Spending Numbers Up

Good news!  There is agreement among the pollsters that IT spending is going up.

At IDC, Research Director John Gantz is predicting about a 5% increase, worldwide, for 2004.

CIO Magazine’s March 2004 Tech Poll (a survey of 277 chief information officers with 40% employed by global corporations) is looking for tech spending to increase by 7.3%.  This is the third month in a row where this survey has reported an anticipated increase in spending of over 7%, the first time in three years this has occurred.

For every “bear” who expected his spending to go down in the next 12 months, 5.2 optimistic “bulls” are anticipating an increase in IT spending.

The highest rated buying segments were security, storage and computer hardware; e-business application software, infrastructure software and outsourced IT services were expected to underperform the market in planned spending, although, even in these categories, improvement is expected as new employees are hired.
