Links:  News Of Events From Amy And The Industry

This is a new section and we think it could become a very important one.
We’re going to use it to tell you about events we’re somehow involved
with that we’d like you to know about, so you can, if you like, participate too.

In my mind, part of the charm of working in the computer industry has
always been its incestuous nature, the notion of constantly crossing
paths with people whom you’ve met before.  In a single week, I may hear
from a long-ago client, looking for a little hand-holding (and an industry update) as he goes off to a high-level interview, a classmate of my husband’s, whom I once taught at an IBM executive school, a former client (now in a new company), looking for a consultant, and an old friend, long lost, calling to say he found me on Google and wanting to catch up. (That actually was a week in December.)

So here are some places I’ll be or some things I’m interested in that you might want to know about.

Free Report On Grid Computing

My good friend Charles Brett, an international IT consultant based in the UK and publisher of the journal MIDDLEWARESPECTRA, writes to tell us
that the Department of Trade and Industry in the UK commissioned his firm to prepare a Grid.MIDDLEWARESPECTRA.

It is aimed at 'communicating' to the commercial community why the Grid
will matter to it.

You can download a free copy of this 60-page report, including views from multiple experts, at www.grid.middlewarespectra.com

Hunting For New Stuff At DEMO

I’ve never been able to decide whether it’s the networking (prime) or the new stuff (even though I’m an analyst, Chris always manages to surprise me) that draws me to DEMO, but it’s always a winner.

The DEMO 2003 Conference is right around the corner.  Executive Producer Chris Shipley selects the most promising new technology products and services to launch at DEMO.  The conference features live, on-stage demos, product test drives and spirited discussions with the thought leaders who are shaping the technology industry.

DEMO is located this year at The Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale,
Arizona, February 16-18, 2003.   For more information go to:
http://www.idgconferences.com/D3AW  or call IDG at 800-633-4312. I’ll be
there, so be sure to call for appointments in advance – or look for me
at DEMO.

A New Seminar From Wohl Associates:  Partnering For Profitability

Every year, dozens of companies ask us for advice about how to partner
(usually with bigger companies) and strategically, how to pick the best
partner.  We help a few, as clients, but we’ve always wanted a way to
bundle up everything we know on this subject and provide it to companies, especially smaller ones (who may not be able to pay consulting fees for this kind of advice).

A new seminar, Partnering For Profitability is the result.  Join us for a jam-packed day of information on everything you need to know to pick exactly the right partner and have him want to choose you, too.

Our registration site will be up and running by January 2, so get ready to register early and join us in Santa Clara on February 27 or Boston March 4 when Charles Brett and I will be ready to share our experience, provide detailed class notes, and answer lots of questions.
