Acme Financial Services:  A Linuxworld Demo

A final LinuxWorld note.

We can't resist noting that while vendors sometimes find it difficult to cooperate, 9 of them got together at LinuxWorld to create a demonstration as to how Linux might work in a real live business situation.  They created a 4,000 square foot lecture, demonstration, and data center space and showed visitors how the mythical Acme Financial Services worked, with solutions for everything from desktop productivity to remote wireless, enterprise storage and data management, and the Internet.

Since it was a cooperative venture, the system included servers from NEC and HP and databases from MySQL, Sybase, and Oracle.  Other participants included Dell, Intel, Linux International, and systems integrator Wild Open Source.

Such demonstrations - and explanations - there were 25 presentations - go a long way in showing it's real.  And that's what a show like LinuxWorld is really about - letting the Linux community know just how far we've gotten and where we might be going next.
