WS-I Publishes First Draft Profile

WS-I, founded to produce guidelines for using Web Services in a way that will insure interoperability, has announced that its Basic Profile Working Draft is now available for public comment.  The group hopes to publish a final version early in 2003.  You may access a copy of the draft at www.ws-i.org. .  Feedback on the profile should be directed to wsbasic_comment@ws-i.org

Chairman Tom Glover hopes that “broad adoption of the profile will provide a level of confidence for executives making investment decisions about Web services and Web services products.”  That could help kick-start the sluggish IT market.

The Basic Profile consists of implementation guidelines recommending how a set of core Web services specifications (SOAP 1.1, WSDL 1.1, UDDI 2.0, XML 1.0 and XML Schema) should be used together to develop interoperable Web services.

In addition to the Basic Profile, WS-I is also working on Testing Tools, Use Cases and Usage Scenarios, and Sample Applications to be used with the Basic Profile.  Early versions of some of these deliverables are expected to be available by the end of the year.
