More Web Services Standards

The Web Services Standards game seems to be a full time job.  Add to the growing list of new standards a new specification for handling business processes, aimed at interoperability and proposed by IBM, Microsoft and BEA – and just when the Security standard had lulled you into thinking that Sun was back to being one of the gang.

This standard, of course, overlaps with the WSCI initiative pushed by Sun earlier (that’s a month ago, I think).

The new services are called WS-Coordination and WS-Transaction.  They are supported by a Business Process Execution Language for Web Services called BPEL4WS.  These are designed to coordinate business activities across web services (and companies).  Transaction lets the business processes be monitored to see if they have successfully reached completion.

All intended, of course, to work with heterogeneous systems, across multi-company environments.  (Are you crossing your fingers by now?)
