Cyberpunk

May 1993

You are going to notice a lot of articles on Cyberpunk. This combination of cybernetics (part of the theory behind modern day computing), science fiction/fantasy, and punk (as in rebellion) has become so chic it's even featured on the cover of the February 8th issue of Time magazine. But if the idea of a brave new world in which data takes on physical reality (cyperspace) turns you on, you should consider subscribing to a new magazine called Wired, which premiered at MacWorld (of course!). Wired is published by Trans Rebo. The new classic book on cyberpunk is Cyberpunk: Outlaws and Hackers on the Computer Frontier, a fascinating look into the day-to-day life in the world of the hackers you sometimes read about in the news. (Hafner and Markoff, Simon and Schuster, 1991.)
